Many people will find the impetus of setting a goal as being selfish. Instead of doing something to prove a point, or to prove someone wrong, do it for yourself! There will always be doubters and detractors.
It's ok to use that for motivation, but when your doubters turn into supporters, will you still be able to push forward? Will you have that same motivation as you once did? Your identity is yours, and no one else's!
Your greatest fuel source is inspiraton. You are inspired by something. One of my greatest fuel sources is my daughter. She is a college athlete who has set and achieved many goals inspite of the obstacles. I refuse to let her down! I have to lead by example. Who am I to push health and a positive mindset if I don't walk the same path! Plus, I promised her that she'lll never have a FAT DADDY! Love you, kid! Pardon me, I digress.
Identify your fuel sources to help you stick to your goals. Whether it's past trauma, or future endeavors, use it as fuel. Create an alter-ego. Whatever you need to do. You may hurt and lose people along the way. Who cares, it gets greater later! If you lose them by bettering yourself, they weren't meant for you to begin with.
When you achieve your goals, don't look for any applause. You may not get the satisfaction. Understand the positive reasons why, the sustainable reasons why, and make it personal. It has to be for you!
TRAIN THE MIND, THE BODY WILL FOLLOW!
